Revit 2020 hanging up when clicking on the file tab.

Every time I click on the File tab in Revit 2020, It hangs up and goes into not responding for 20-30 seconds.  I see this was listed as a know issue in Revit 2019 and it states that the issue has been resolved in 2020.  However, It obviously is still an issue.

Has anyone else seen this and is there a known fix.  There was a fix for 2019 by cleaning out the recent files from the ini file but that was only temporary and the problem came back quickly.

Hello @Anonymous ,
Thank you using the forum to post your question.   I'll be glad to help.
Are referring to this issue/article.  Hang up in Revit 2019 when clicking the File Ribbon Tab

Does the Shortcut CNTRL+O open the file menu much faster?
After you delete your Revit.ini file and Relaunch Revit 2020,  Is the file menu slow to open on first Launch?
Is Revit 2020 up to date?

If the problem persists,  If you have addins in Revit 2020,  Please test by disabling according to this article.
How to disable add-ins for Revit

Thank you for your response. Yes, I was referring to that article. CNTRL+O brings up the open file menu, however, I'm not trying to open a file. I need to extract CAD files from an open revit model via the file tab. Revit 2020 is up to date. After deleting the Revit.ini file, I have the same problem the 1st time I click on the file tab. I've removed all add-ins and the problem persists.

Hello @Anonymous, Thank you for the update.

I'll be glad to assist.   Please run the collector utility at the bottom of THIS ARTICLE and attach or send me a direct message of the resulting zip file.

The utility will make a zip file at C:\Autodesk\DiagnosticData

As a workaround to export dwg, Access to additional command on the File menu can be accessed by creating  Keyboard Shortcuts

I accepted the solution of adding the required command to a hot key and it seems to function as I need it.  Note that clicking the file tab still does cause Revit to hang up.

Hello @Anonymous ,

I'm glad that the shortcut works but it seems the main issue is still not solved.   Did this article help regarding group policy?    This has been found to be an issue with Revit 2020,   Does it apply in your case?

When the Group Policy setting "Do not keep history of recently opened documents" is Enabled, the File menu in Revit 2020 does not function.

The issue still is here after update that when pressing file tab or any of interface use it to freeze then unfreeze and you can only use command which is annoying.

Please bring out a path to fix this please? Thank you!

The issue can easily be produce just download revit and install it and once installed it will hang when ever you try to go the file tab menu or press any button. 😞

Its not fixed. 😞

I have installed the update but it still does not fix it and still freeze when i touch the user interlace tab this does not happen in older version only in 2020.

Testing it out and it works on and off i will do more testing to see how stable it operates and let you all know if 2020.2 has fixed it.

I can sometime press buttons with out it constantly going into a loop before the update so will update this and see how things goes.

This is a quite ridiculous issue that has been going on for too long. Every single time the file menu is selected Revit freezes. Every single Time! The amount of time each day being wasted due to this is sickening.

Hello @ModelforChrist

I'm sorry to hear you are still having issues.    This issue was specific to the file tab being slow which was fixed in Revit 2020.2

File Dialog does not appear in Revit 2020 when clicking the File Ribbon Tab

Are you experiencing problems when clicking on any button in the ribbon or specifically, the file menu?

I look forward to your reply.

I'm having the same  problem;

When trying to open, save, save as, or any other command that uses brows option
the Posses Revit.exe tend to hang for 20-40 sec until several threads have been finished.

I could not find out on the Internet or in the forums a solution that can work.
Tried suggestion like - cleaning the previews list of open files (deleting the ini), Removing Addins.

And it seams to be connected to  a part of the program ruining in the back, ether windows (have 10 64 bit up do date) or a conflict with Revit (2020.2.1)  So any suggestions...?

Hello

I am having this same issue. I have installed 2020.2.2 hot fix update and deleted the .ini listings noted.

Is there anything else that can be done? It is an issue across my whole team.

Thanks
