Revit 2017 Steel connections not showing in the type selector

Hi all,

I was trying to do what's been done here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Au9rVvRO8OU

In my own project, when I try to select the "Connection" button, I only see the "generic connection" type in the type selector. The loaded connections from the Structural Connection settings doesn't appear. When I try to just use the generic connection, I couldn't see the green-colored symbols in the video. This is what I get instead:

FYI

1 - I have Revit Steel Connections 2017 installed

2 - I have opened the Structural Connection settings from the arrow on the lower right of the panel, and added all available connections to the "Loaded Connections" box

3 - I tried using our custom Structural steel columns and beam families, AS WELL AS, the out-of-the-box Revit Structural column & framing families 9I used the UC & UB from US Metric)

Not sure where I went wrong. Please help.

Thanks.

Hi Jahzzy,

From what you are describing, my best ques is that you don't have the steel connections visible in the canvas because of the Visibility\Graphics settings.

Please see the following link:

Thank you, Milhai.

You're right. I forgot to tick all the structural connection boxes. So now, I can already see the generic connection symbol.

However, the steel connections are still not showing. I also can't edit the Connection using the Modify parameters since its greyed-out. I figure it would only be activated once the steel connections are selected.

Again, the steel connections are already loaded, I could even select them from the family browser. It just doesn't show from the type selector.

Any ideas? Thanks again.

Update:

So I tried to split a structural element, selected the "Connections" button, then the Splice joint in the type selector (it shows up now).

The actual 3d splice joint is nowhere to be found - only the symbol is there, with an accompanied warning (see image below). When I try to click on the Modify parameters, no dialog box pops up.

Not sure what's happening. This is my first time with Revit Structure. Please help.

Thanks

Hi again,

Most probably the profile on which you try to create the connection is not from an out of the box steel shape.

We created a very comprehensive help documentation for this feature:

Warning messages are covered here:

http://help.autodesk.com/view/RVT/2017/ENU/?guid=GUID-A1EF6B1A-BF7F-435E-9DB3-0577F88C954B

Out of the box steel shapes that are compatible with the Steel Connections feature are covered here:

http://help.autodesk.com/view/RVT/2017/ENU/?guid=GUID-6244E741-5D14-4DAD-AE25-5069F71B69F3

You also mentioned that you don't see steel connections in type selector sometimes. The steel connections are filtered in Type Selector, depending on steel shape type, orientation in canvas, number of input elements,....

This subject is covered here:

http://help.autodesk.com/view/RVT/2017/ENU/?guid=GUID-24C33598-E6B7-426A-ABBD-F0BDFA2EACC1

Hi Milhai,

Thanks so much. That's what answered my questions. Just some follow-ups though:

1 - Would it be possible for us to create a modified family based on the existing Certified Steel Shapes and still be able to use the Steel Connections feature?

2 - I couldn't change the Generic connection color (from green to another color) in the VG Filters tab using the Code Checking Status Parameter and/or the Approval Status as stated in this page: https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/revit-products/learn-explore/caas/CloudHelp/cloudhelp/2017/EN...

(Generic connections can display in drawings and use colors based on approval and/or code checking status parameters for an easier review/approval workflow.)

Is that the correct way to change its color display?

Thanks,

Jahzzy

I realized I could only change the symbol color from the Object Styles. The Filters tab can also be used for the Steel Connections objects (not symbols).

- Is that correct?

Hi,

Did you try changing the detail level in the lower left of the workspace to "detail level:Fine"

I was having a warm time until I changed it.
