Override grid display per view

The firm I'm with wants to see the grids going through the building on the foundation plan. And stopping short of the building in the framing plans. They use the a Bubble Gap grid and drag them through the foundation plan to achieve this. If I used a custom bubble gap grid, is there a way to have the middle part of the grid show up in the foundation, but not the framing?

hello, you can try first duplicate with detailing and then pick the gridlines change 3d to 2d and drag to the position you wanted it to be. thanks

Couple of thing. The views already exist, but that's decides the point. Your described workflow is what i'm currently doing. I don't want to drag those points, it's a lot of work/maintenance.

What I wanted to know if there was a way to override Grid elements per view. So I can use the Custom Gap and change the center segment to invisible in my framing plans. The grid line property isn't accessible through the visibility graphics.

Hello,

Unfortunately there is no way to hide the center segment in specific views. But for an export of the sheets you could switch between the two family types you need to show.

For the scenario you describe, this seems manageable if you use a combination of adjusting 2D extents in a single framing plan and then propagating that adjusted datum to the remaining framing plans. There should be no need to use duplicate or dependant views or scope boxes in this scenario.

Perhaps you’re already doing this, but the 3 steps would be:

  1. Create your normal grid, which is visible in all plan views.
  2. In one of the framing plans, pull the grid lines back using the blue 2D dot/grip (If you only see the 3D extent, pick the 3D label and it toggles to 2D).  These changes using the 2D dots only affect this view.
  3. After those adjustments, in that same view, select these adjusted grid lines and then in the Modify|Grids / Datum panel select Propagate Extents to the other framing views.

I don’t think there’s a faster, more automated way.  But if one is needed, this could be suggested here: Revit Ideas

I've created the idea for this here: Gap Grids per View instead of per Type (similar to gaps in Section segments)

For us, the problem is the opposite (so it's easier to workaround, but still annoying): we want the Grids only gapped on the foundation plan (where they coincide with joint lines), which I'll be discussing in my proposed AU 2018 class: “Ridiculous Revit Workarounds - things you SHOULDN'T need to know, but DO!” - please search for "ridic" and vote for it!
