Hi there.
'DWG linking' and 'Shared Coordinates' insertion option are deliberately disabled for Families. This is because these functions are defeat the purpose of using families which are inserted at specific locations in Revit projects.
By using Shared coordinates, you would be inserting your elements in a specific point in space relative to the project. In this case I would recommend to create a sub-project (rvt) instead of a family and hence insert or link this project file into your main project. You will then be able to use the 'Shared Coordinates' feature.
Hope this helps.
I was hoping there would be more logical way to insert and link and use dwg into revit to get to work with both worlds (dwg and rvt) in infra designing complex geometry.
Now it nearly impossible to use section and view tools in combination with coordinates. You have to choose or do the same operation of linking twice. I really do not understand why disabling options would help this.. ??😓
Some more clarification from a development point of view I would really appreciate. Any revit for infra specialist
btw Linking dwg in a separate rvt does not bring this any further. Not a significant step for solving this issue.
