IFC newbie questions

Hello,

Total Revit Greenhorn. Just a couple questions about IFC files and their use.

-I've been given a Revit file & an IFC file. When is it better to link an IFC or just modify a copy of the revit file?

-This is a project involving multiple disciplines. When I send over my IFC, will my modifications be reletively easy to see? The firm that sent over the model wants us to adjust beam sizes so it's a lot of beams in the same location being replaced.

Hi,

- For me, I use IFC as a reference model only if clients send us only IFC format or they use another software. So Revit is more comfortable to be integrated to your Revit models (for example, working with Dynamo).

- It depends on which software your clients using for combining/ coordinating multi-discipline models. Revit elements have ID and it is exported together in IFC format. Besides that, some software have function to compare between preceding and following versions of the same model and highlight it out for observation, so don't worry about it.
