how to create starter bars in fillet retaining wall

Hi forum,

I want to create starting rebar for fillet retaining wall as in the first picture. Freeform rebar works for me only if I adjust footing but that doesnt work to me (see picture 2). How can I achieve it in thegeometry such as in the picture 3? What am I doing wrong? Can someone please help me out?

Thanks,

Dan.

Hi @daniel.compel

I can think of two ways to model that:

The first would be free form rebar + hooks

  • Use the aligned distribution, select only the vertical wall face (as the host surface)
  • Add a hook rotated at 180 deg at the bottom end (or the start) of the bar
  • Customize the hook length for that bar type; you can duplicate the hook type to create as many hook lengths as you need
  • HookType.png
  • To report the bar segment lengths, change the workshop instructions parameter to "Bend"
  • BarProperties.png
  • AND edit (and rename) the rebar shape that is created, to add the Start (or End) Hook Length parameter to one of the A, B, C parameters
  • EditShapeFamily.png
  • Edit the bar constraints and adjust the offset of the top segment with respect to the top face of the wall
  • BarOffset.png

The second option would to create additional geometry for defining the bar geometry

In your example, it could look like the image below.

AddGeom.png

The end offset can be adjusted through edit constraints, so only the defining host faces are important

Like in the previous example, you can use the "Bend" option to match the bar geometry to a rebar shape.

In my simple example the L bar matches the M_17 shape

Let me know if you have any questions

Hello,

so both of the proposed solutions work, but they are half-way solutions.

I found another somewhat interesting solution. You place one bar, make it a radial array and then you can use sofistik rebar addon to make it a group for scheduling. But it doesn't work with with other than circular walls.

In the end, all of the solutions are not complete and revit team should come up with some solution.

Thank you for the help,

Daniel
