A standard truss family will not help. I would look if you could create something out of a beam family.

Other option might be to create a box truss out of multiple (truss) families.

Please mention Revit version, especially when uploading Revit files.

I tried to create a farm based on the Metric Structural Framing - Complex and Trusses family of templates.
but it is not possible to set profiles for chords, diagonals and struts.
probably something I'm doing wrong

something like this?  i didn't know what version you have so this is in 2017 format. i initially created it as a Generic Model then changed the category to Structural Framing. Feel free to reverse engineer it as needed 🙂

that one is made as a 2'x2'x4' base unit. then it was grouped and arrayed. the array is using a parameter "Truss Length" to set the number of arrays using a formula. setting the truss length will adjust the array in 4 increments.

is there a way to use true structural members instead of direct modeling with extrude ? Specifically looking to do this with adaptive families though!

you might be able to... I've honestly never tried :-).  You can bring other Structural Framing elements into Structural Framing families, so id think you may be able to.
