Export to IFC option is Greyed out in 2024 and 2022

I am trying to export the IFC file from Revit 2024 and Revit 2022. I can see the Export to IFC option is greyed out for me. Refer to the attached screenshot for the same.Revit IFC.png

File-> Export-> IFC.

Can i check you are Looking to create an IFC of a Model/Project and not of a Family?

You cannot export a Family to to an IFC, but if you insert it in an empty project/model then you can.

Let us know what you're tying to export.

if it's a family then do as jay says above

If you want to export a certain view then be sure to have it opened in a single window

I opened the Revit sample file which is: basic_Sample_family. So @jay_colcombe you may be correct.

I would like to clarify the following: If a model is opened or created as "Family," the IFC export option appears to be greyed out. However, if a model is opened or created as "Project," the IFC export option is available. Please let me know if my understanding is incorrect.

Yes that is correct!

You could simply.

Create a New Project

Load the Family into this Project

and Export it as an IFC
