Custom Steel Connection Schedule

Is there a way to schedule parts within a custom steel connection?

If I don't include those parts in a custom steel connection, they would show up on a schedule.  However, as soon as I include them, none of it would should up on a schedule at all.  If I brake a custom steel connection, it'd show up again on a schedule.

Is this just a limitation with a custom steel connection?  Is there a workaround?  It doesn't seem intuitive that Revit allows you to make a custom steel connection but there is not a way to schedule it.

Thank you much in advance for any input!

Hi @psomboonyanon

Connection's elements should be scheduled like any other steel elements, custom connections' including.

Can you attach a small video or a test model to understand your issue.

Thanks!

Hi @catalin_lang

There are a couple issues:

1.  With in a structure file itself, I include a beam as part of the custom connection.  One advantage doing it this way is that I can easily change elevation and all parts will be moved at once since I cannot find a way to constraint plates to level or reference plane.  If I create a schedule within this file for a custom connection, I can still get a plate schedule (as well as other connection elements, bolts, etc.) but structural framing included in a custom connection wouldn't show up on a schedule unless I break a custom connection.

2.  I also use this structure as a linked Revit file in a main model since the exact same structure is used in several locations.  Using a link allows me to make changes in one location and update all at once rather than delete, copy, and paste multiple times in the main model.  However, in this main file where a structure is linked, I couldn't get a plate schedule to show anything at all from a custom connection even when checking an option "include elements in links".  If I break a custom connection in a linked file, a schedule in a main model would include parts from a linked Revit as expected.

Please see attached for my model.  If you have a better workflow for this scenario, I'm all ears.

Thanks!

Beams part of a connection, custom connection including, are under Structural Connection > Profiles category.

That's why they disappear from structural framings schedules while part of a custom connection.

Ahhh!  Thank you very much for the clarification.

What about on the second one about a schedule of a steel custom connection as a linked Revit file?  That still doesn't seem to show up on a schedule.  Is it a current limitation?  If so, is there any workaround?

No, in the current implementation steel fabrication elements from linked files cannot be scheduled or filtered.

Unfortunately, there's no workaround for it.
