Creating Revit Structure Model From Architects Revit Model

Hi There,

Can anyone offer advice, maybe some steps as to how to approach creating / starting a structural revit model while using an architectural revit model.

To date i have created strutural revit models from scratch form an architects autoCAD drawings but would appriciate if anybody could offer any advise on the above.

I have tried using models from Architects before but they are usually modeled pretty poorly.  We don't even bother any more becuase there were so many mistakes with dimensioning etc...  They also tend to create very large, bloated files because of families they model in place or masses etc...

I suggest just linking in their model into yours so that you can refence it.  This is also useful when they send you an updated model.

 Many Thanks Brenan. Appreciate your reply. This is as i suspected and unfortunate. I was hoping to avoid similar problems when architects autoCAD drawings were not usable. But it is what ist is i suppose

working with Architects model needs careful planing as you will be sharing your model with other consultants.

Check whether your architect has any BIM execuation plan for the project you going to start (see if he has given coordinates in it) so your model and his model can line up once linked.

Search for paul aubin topic for theory of relativity to understand how coordinate system works & how to acquire cooredinates
