Connection deleting notch

I have applied a notch to the end of a beam as shown

STEEL CONNECTION 4.JPG

I then want an angle on the opposite side bolted to both beams. howvere when a apply a connection it deletes the notch as shown

STEEL CONNECTION2.JPGSTEEL CONNECTION 1.JPG

It appears to be this value but it does not allow negative values as shown

STEEL CONNECTION 5.JPG

Any suggestions welcome

If you use the right connection doesn't it notch the beam automatically (as part of that), with existing notch doesn't it just get confused? How does it know what you have there originally? Perhaps it does but that would seem like a lot of permutations to consider.

Clip angleClip angle

That dimension can't be negative I assume because it would imply a clash in horizontal (less than no gap), whereas vertical can because it can extend beyond top, perhaps.

@RPTHOMAS108  what connection did you use there ?

It is just called clip angle:

You can also reverse it similar to how you have it:

Is a bit of an old connection type in UK, would tend to use fin plates welded into the web of other beam (for web of incoming beam to connect to with bolts) nowadays.

More welds in factory, less bolts on site, also stiffens web at point of connection.

You don't need to cope it, you can just place the connection.

All the notching parameters are defined within. A single connection entity with a single calculation for it (in the future perhaps).

You are correct.
