aligning point cloud to existing grids

I have a point cloud in Revit.  I'm trying to align the point cloud to an existing building model.  Sounds backwards I know.  The problem I'm having is that when I want to move the point cloud say 2" to align an edge with a wall, the point cloud moves 12" instead.  if I try to move it back 10" it moves 16".  Has anyone else had this problem/found a solution?

This is something I have experienced before and have found the problem to be related to the point cloud location (Northing/Easting) being very large numbers, with respect to Revits internal coordinate system. (Eg, cloud is geolocated at a site many km away from a 0,0 reference) The further away from 0,0 the worse the error when using alignment and movement tools.

You can check if the cloud you are using has coordinates containing very large distances in Recap. If this is the case, then shifting the coordimate system of the point cloud should solve this issue. You will need to consider how this affects your linking workflow as well, if using a shared coordinate system. Good luck!

Hello everybody,

We get more or less the same issue described above, as it seems that when Point Cloud surveys are Geolocated or the coordinates of the points refers to a specific Coordinate System that reflects their position is far away from the (0,0,0) center of the system, you start to have issues when import the file into Revit.

Our user-case have made me and a colleague struggling for few hours, as we received two clouds from our surveyor that shown they are continuous in ReCAP and CIVIL3D, while in Revit it is shown a gap of 30 cm. Generic coordinates of points are located in ReCAP (2595000, 1120000) units in meters.
