Vertical Pipes

All I want to do is simply add a vertical pipe in a Revit drawing, but if I go to a side view I get the message "Can't draw because Work Plane is at a very sharp angle in this view. Go to another view or redefine the Work Plane."

Ive tried defining a new work plane but I am having trouble doing that as well.

Is there a simple way to place a pipe vertically, or how do I change the work plane so that I am able to?

Thank you for any advice

When you say side view - are you meaning a section or are you trying to model in the 3D view?

If you are trying in 3D - don't bother as it is more hassle than it's worth. Use a section view.

As Julian said, section views are the best to draw vertically, but you do need a specific 'something' there to start with (end of a pipe, connector on fixture, etc).  However, from the Floor Plan view you can pick a start point and elevation for a pipe run via the OFFSET option (example 9'), then change the OFFSET value to something much higher (30'), and select the APPLY button.  After hitting the APPLY button, hit <esc> to exit the command.  Look in your 3D view or section view and you will see the vertical pipe run.

Thankyou both for the advice, but Im not sure what you mean Dennis.

Do you mean change the offset levels of each end of the pipe so that it appears to be vertical (when it fact it will just have a very steep slope)?

Thanks again guys 🙂

I didn't realize you were trying to slope as well.  The directions I gave were for going straight up.  If using the 'slope' option isn't working for you, then you can manually draw the slope in a section view.  Another method would be to establish a "from" and a "to" point by placing pipes at those locations, or equipment and then connect the two.

Sorry Dennis, you were right the first time. I was trying to go straight up but I don't understand your initial instructions

Don't worry about it, I've just used a section view which works for me. Thanks guys 🙂
