Valve Families with multiple types

Hi Folks,

I have a number of gate valve families I would like to combine into one family with each size listed as a type similar to out of the box valves(see attached image). Is this possible? If somebody could point me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it.

@Anonymous  - you must provide more information about your actual valve families.. which is the common part between them/which is the difference in terms of parametric geometry. Creating types is an easy job. Maybe you can attach your rfa also.

@Secttor  Thank you for your reply. The valve families in question(attached) share no common part if it is geometry you are talking about. They come from .stp files we received from our manufacturer. I managed to control visibility of the valves last night by using visibility parameters, however using this method the valves cannot be scheduled and they are all of the same type. 

My goal is to have a family that contains nested families which are each separate types.

Attached you will find your request (Revit 2019). 

Remarks :

- those extrusions used for connectors are useless, use planes instead which will be used also for symbolic representation (that model-line).

- as you can see.. the rfa comes with 3 types and 3 visibility parameters assigned to our 3 .dwg files.

- unfortunately these .dwg files can't be full- exploded by Revit so you must use as it is. If you need native Revit geometries this must be modelled entirely in Revit.

@Secttor  I am just trying to replicate this family here on Revit 2017. My question is how did you associate the visibility parameters with the individual cad files? Are you able to break down the process a little more?

The Attached file has combined type of families where i added the parameter name link with connector as 'DIA'

Thanks for that, I see what you have done there alright but it doesn't function in the way I am looking for. Secttor's method works I just need a bit more of a breakdown

Hi @Anonymous  - glad that you were satisfied with results and smart decision to recreate it in 2017, you'll learn the process. 

Regarding Visibility :

1. Already imported and placed dwg's (which overlap in order to have the same insertion point for all 3 types) - you simply click on one of them and assign a visibility parameter (Yes/No) already created in the parameters. You can also create the visibility parameter from Associate Family Parameter Dialog. 

Hiding placed geometries can be done by selecting desired geometry and use HH (twice from the keyboard) or this function : 

Probably you also want to place the connectors on planes. Pick the connector and use Work Plane Placement method.
