Systems Analysis Not Working - "EnergyPlus simulation did not generate a report for systems analysis"

Hello,

I'm currently going through this course with Autodesk Certification.

https://www.autodesk.com/certification/learn/course/revit-system-analysis-mechanical-design-professi...

I'm using the model (attached below) supplied as part of the course documentation and completed the activities described in the course.  Unfortunately, when I run the systems analysis the report that I get reads "EnergyPlus simulation did not generate a report systems analysis"

I've looked for the "eplusout.err" file but can't find it as it appears to not be generating.

I've tried this file and tutorial out in both Revit 2022 and 2023 with the same result.

Any help in this regard would be fantastic as I've spent the weekend trying to trouble shoot this and i'm losing my mind!

Thanks very much!

Thanks @iainsavage ,  I went through the links you provided and had actually tried all those methods/options as well but no avail.  I though for sure doing the tutorial through Autodesk would be a sure fire way to get a result. But no dice.  Sounds like you're in touch with Autodesk?  Anyway you could share the contact so I could jump on that thread, or keep us up to date on your progress?

Thanks,

I get occasional emails from customer support to let me know that they are still working on the problem but so far no solution.

The issue is with the Open Studio command line interface (CLI) called up by Revit and I’m told that Autodesk developers are working with their counterparts at NREL to find a solution.

Revit does create the gbxml files and if you install the full version of Open Studio you can run the calculations by importing the gbxml into OS but that’s obviously not the same as doing everything from inside Revit.

-I downloaded your files

-reloaded linked architectural model

-didn't change any setting

-deleted existing analytical model

-generated analytical model

-ran Annual Building Energy Simulation. seems to be working just fine

-ran HVAC System Loads and Sizing. seems to be working just fine

apparently I wasn't able to recreate the problem you have encountered with.

This seems to confirm that its the same rare problem which I've been having. It is specific to certain pc setups. My laptop has the problem but my desktop pc works fine.

If @fuzzylogik511RXH65 you have access to another computer it might be worth trying it on there and then you can maybe complete the course.

Yup.. i tried the same model on a different PC, but with Revit 2021 and no problem there.  It must be 2023 with my particular laptop.  Hope Autodesk sees this post and figure this issue out as it's a pretty major flaw that i'm running into.

I've been assured by customer support that the developers are still working on this matter but they do not yet have the solution.

Meanwhile they provided me with this link to a possible workaround solution.

https://github.com/NREL/OpenStudio/issues/4573

I haven't fully understood or tried this - I've only been able to run the independent version of OpenStudio whilst importing the gbxml file generated from Revit but I haven't been able to automate the process through the CLI or return the results back to Revit - I'm not a programmer, just a simple user of the software.

If you have any success with this please post back here for the benefit of others (and me).

Customer Support have passed on this information and have allowed me to share it:

"I received a confirmation from our Developers, that NREL confirmed this issue on the computers with following Intel architectures:
• Intel(R) Cannon Lake CPU
• Intel(R) Ice Lake CPU
• Intel(R) Ice Lake server CPU
• Intel(R) Tiger Lake CPU
• Intel(R) Alder Lake CPU
• Intel(R) Sapphire Rapids CPU
NREL is working on the solution. After solving this issue, their components will be tested and updated in Revit."
There is a support page on the topic here.

I had the same issue described. Systems Analysis worked on one laptop while it didn't for another when trying to run energy simulation for a simple zone. I went through this Github post and updated OpenStudio as mentioned in the post and now I can see the generated report.

I must mention that although now the analysis runs successfully and the report is generated, I noticed that there are other issues related to how the analytical model is translated into OpenStudio and Energyplus. Refer to this post for more details.

Dear community friends;

Dear friends of the community, finally I found a very simple solution to solve the error "EnergyPlus simulation did not generate a report for systems analysis" and I want to share it with us.

Simply put, it is an update to the OpenStudio that Revit uses to process all Energy Analyses  🤔

Hello.  Is there anyone who has followed the solution in this YouTube video that could post a simple text translation of the steps in English?

Well....  It sort of worked, but now I'm wondering if I'm just not setting up my model correctly.  What I'm finding is that when I run the systems analysis for a building with no doors or windows the systems analysis appears to run load calculations, but if I insert a door or a window I get the error which says "EnergyPlus simulation did not generate a report for systems analysis."

I have tried to adjust energy settings to run with each of the 3 modes: Conceptual Types, Schematic Types or Detailed Elements, but the analysis fails in all 3 modes.

When I first encountered this problem I thought I’d done something wrong so to test it I made a model with one room bounded by four walls, roof and floor and with one system comprising an electric heater - and it failed. Every step suggested by customer support and the software developers also failed.
So my conclusion would be therefore that if you can get a report to generate at all then its probably not the same issue.
