Hello,

Could someone tell me, please, if there’s any possibility of setting up my own way of circuit numbering? The circuit number that I want to get, should consist of 3 numbers, where the first number will indicate the type of a circuit (lighting, 1 phase outlets, 3 phase outlets etc.) and last two numbers will indicate the circuit sequence number of the each type.

For example, the first number for lighting circuits will be 1; for 1 phase outlets – 2 and for 3 phase outlets – 3, so that:

Lighting circuit nr.1 will become 100

Lighting circuit nr.2 - 101

Lighting circuit nr.3 – 102 etc.

1 phase Power circuit nr.1 - 200

1 phase Power circuit nr.2 - 201

1 phase Power circuit nr.3 – 202 etc.

3 phase Power circuit nr.1 - 300

3 phase Power circuit nr.2 - 301

1 phase Power circuit nr.3 – 302 etc.

I have figured out that I can assign a code for different type of circuits (1 – for lighting, 2 – for 1 phase outlets and 3 – for 3 phase outlets) by adding Load Classification Abbreviation to Circuit Naming Scheme, but then I need a circuit numbering that begins with 00 (those last two numbers) and this circuit numbering should start from the beginning (from 00) for each circuit type that is having a different code, i.e. Load Classification Abbreviation.

But why?  This seems overly complicated and unnecessary.  How do you plan to reference the panel in your circuit number?  Will you show wires & homeruns?

This is the way how the circuits are named in my country and a panel will have it's own code as well according to standards. And yes, I will show wires and homeruns. I can prepare this circuit numbering manually, but wanted to know whether it is possible to make it more automated, so in case of changes in circuits they would be changed automatically.

Yes, it is possible to set up your own custom circuit numbering system in Revit. You can do this by creating a custom circuit naming scheme and using a combination of load classification abbreviations and circuit sequence numbers.

To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Go to the "Project" tab and select "Settings."

  2. Click on "Electrical Settings."

  3. In the "Electrical Settings" dialog box, select the "Circuit Naming" tab.

  4. Click on the "Add" button to create a new naming scheme.

  5. In the "Circuit Naming Scheme" dialog box, enter a name for your custom circuit numbering system.

  6. In the "Formula" field, enter the formula for your custom circuit numbering system. For example:

    [Load Classification Abbreviation][Circuit Sequence Number:2]

  7. The "[Load Classification Abbreviation]" part of the formula will be automatically replaced with the code for the circuit type (1 for lighting, 2 for 1 phase outlets, 3 for 3 phase outlets).

  8. The "[Circuit Sequence Number:2]" part of the formula will be automatically replaced with the circuit sequence number, with a minimum of 2 digits (e.g. 00, 01, 02, etc.).

  9. Click "OK" to save your custom circuit numbering scheme.

  10. In the "Electrical Settings" dialog box, select your custom circuit numbering scheme from the "Circuit Naming Scheme" dropdown list.

  11. Click "OK" to close the "Electrical Settings" dialog box.

Now, when you add circuits in your Revit project, they will be automatically numbered according to your custom circuit numbering scheme.

Thank you very much for helping, but I have found out that there's no "Formula" field available in the "Circuit Naming Scheme" dialog box (see attachment).
