Revit MEP COBie data export issue

Hello,

I am trying to set up my BIM interoperability tool to export COBie data sheet.

This is what I have set for the "Types",

Types 1.jpg

And in the Parameter Mappings section, I have set the "Type" description to "IfcDescription", as I have already got this parameter filled.

Types 2.jpg

If I understand this correctly, when you map a parameter, that means you want to read / use the values from that parameter to export to your data sheet.

My issue is when I  go to update and apply updates, all the values in the "IfcDescription" gets overwritten by the values from type description. Exactly the opposite why that I was expecting it to work.

Parameter Mapping can be a beast.

Think about it this way: the COBie Extension has default parameters where it updates data and exports data from. Parameter Mapping is saying "don't use that default COBie parameter, use 'Parameter X'." After that, the COBie Extension uses Parameter X to update and export data.

If you don't want to overwrite the Type Description, set the Update for it to SKIP. Note that this applies if you are using Parameter Mapping or not.

Hello and thanks for your reply

If I understand your post correctly when we map a parameter, we are telling BIM Interoperability tool to ready values from the parameter we have specified to fill in the spreadsheet when exporting data. BUT if we update that field BIM interoperability tool will override the values of the specified parameter using the values of the default parameter!

I guess I will be safer if I use Dynamo to push values from the parameter that holds the correct information, to the default parameter and leave the mapping as default, and if someone updated "ALL" all will be good.

Or, as I noted with my post and graphic, you can tell the COBie Extension to SKIP updating that value when you run Update. It will then NOT override the values of the specified parameters. That is completely supported in the tool already.

You mention users might set it to ALL. The default is BLANK which will also not override parameter values. So, users have to go out of their way to set it to ALL. Seems like some internal training for your users might be useful and save some Dynamo time.
