revit freezes when trying to open a particular project

Good day everyone, I have received some rvt files from an owner and i can open up the architectural one then link in the MEP one. However if i attempt to open the MEP one individually revit will freeze and just not open it. Also if I attempt to manage the worksets of the MEP file when i link it in it will also freeze and close revit. I have never ran into this before and im hoping its a permission setting or something i can get around. thanks in advance.

Has it been saved as a central file in it's current location?

Audit?

Compact?

Sometimes.

Do you have the option to detach from central in the open dialog box? If you do, try opening it with preserve worksets and if that doesn't work discard worksets.

If you get it open, look for missing links.

That was my initial thought, i figured i can just detach it and then create a new central for it but unfortunately it still freezes when i try that. i tried to detach the architectural and then make a new central (not a good idea i know but im just trying to get the mep to open individually) then link the mep into that but still nothing. then i tried linking it into my default template and "bind link" but it wont let me do that. i get an error message about a central model that exists on the original owners H: drive.

Unfortunate.

It sounds like you were sent a local file and it's searching for the central. Tell the sender that the wrong file was sent and ask for the central.

If that is not easy. AutoDesk can probably help get it usable but you would have to send them the file.

Ok thanks for your help, i was thinking that may be the case but this is just for a bid ATM so it may have been done that way intentionally. not sure why they would do that but o well.
