Revit and Projects stored in G Suite

Hello

We recently migrated form physical storage to cloud storage.  All project files have been moved to our G Suite.  The problem we're running into is that now some project files are taking a very long time to load.  One user reported that it took 3-4 hours for a project to open in Revit 2018.  During that time Revit was "Not Responding."  After the project was loaded it behaved normally.  The user also tried moving the file to their local system and it still took forever to open.  Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

I'm pretty sure the only way to use Revit on the cloud is with BIM360.

Drafting is a breeze and Revit doesn't always work the way you think it should.

Dear @Anonymous ,

While opening any project we do get option under Open icon.

Open only specific worksets so that it will reduce down your file opening time.

Once model is open you can manually open workset from Collaborate->Worksets->Open.

Let me know if it works.

I was afraid it was something along those lines.

Hi, halT4B9D,

I'm Judy from Revit Technical Support. I see you're using GSuite for your Revit files and it's taking a long time to download them. GSuite (and similar cloud file sharing services) is not a supported environment for Revit worksharing, as they are not designed to keep the filesharing permissions up to date at the high speed needed in Revit. Attemtping to do worksharing in these environments can be disappointing at best, and can lead to file corruption. This article provides more details: Using Revit files on Dropbox, Box, OneDrive, SharePoint, Google Drive

Also be sure to check out Considerations when choosing a file server for Revit for more information on what kind of a file server you'll need to work successfully in Revit.

Let me know if this helps or if you have any other questions!

Best,

Thanks, Judy.

It was the answer I was afraid of but it does give me Revit's official stance on the issue.  I appreciate your help and the community's help in pointing me in the right direction to solve the problem.
