Looking for a reliable way to rotate a nested family via a parameter

Title says it all basically. Every time I tried it it ended up very unreliable. I can't find any way to attach a point to a point.

I had a lot of trouble with this as well, there's a really good Autodesk University presentation with helpful handouts that taught me how to do this:
