Light Fixture Symbol on Slopped Ceiling

I know this has been an issue in the past. Curious if anyone has found a workaround for this? I have face based light fixtures on a slopped ceiling and the symbols are not showing up on plan view. Any ideas would be great.

Hello @Anonymous,

Is there a symbolic line in the family?

Did you already adjust the view range?

Maybe, you need upload the lighting fixture family you created to see it personally.

Thanks

in the past I have used NON Hosted Light fixtures and created a reference plane, named the ref plane and placed the family on that Plane without issue.

my families are using detail items to represent size and shape and I adjust my view range to display the symbol.

faced based families should work the same, if you are using detail lines be sure the subcategory is turned on and your view range is correct.

mvoss,

I see were you are going with that family. Its really nice. But, it seems to still have the same issue (unless I'm missing something). The symbol gets skewed with the rotation. What we are looking to do. Is have the fixture at whatever angle. Then have the symbol show as if it was on a flat plane. Not sure its possible. Because its seems that the symbol needs to be at the angled slope of the reference plane in the model. This seems like it may become more of an issue when the symbol involves circles and angles. Basically, we would like the symbol to always show the same (with a hosted family), no matter what angle the fixture goes into the model at.

use this version then.  the first file adjusts so that it will always fit within the ceiling tile.

kadmonkee,

I agree with your suggestion. I'm not a huge fan of hosted light fixture families myself. Only issue I see with this option. Is that the actual fixture does not take on the angle of the reference plane for a non hosted family.

The issue is exactly that, it does not work the same as a non-hosted family. Even with a detail item as the symbol. But, I may not have tested this correctly.

This link explains how to have the same symbol as flat ceilings by using a nested annotation family.

Hi, timmyt21,

I'm Judy from Revit Technical Support. It looks like you've had a number of suggestions about the issue of lighting fixtures on a sloped ceiling, and I was wondering if the answers from other users were helpful or if you still need help. I'm happy to help out if you need more help. Let me know!

Thanks and have a good day!

Judy,

Thanks for the response. The suggestions from people have been great. But, still not getting the results we are looking for. I'm not sure its possible, the more I mess around with it. I believe the issue is the family being hosted and being on an angle (slopped ceiling). The symbol will either be skewed with that angle, or not show up at all. Unless I'm missing something completely.

Forgot to include the link:

It can get complicated but it is doable. I've used it for symbols on sloped pipe.

The families i posted are more up to date than what I used when I wrote the post in the link.

I don't understand why this issue is marked as solved. I'm using Revit 2022 and still can't get light fixture symbols on sloped ceilings.

Let me see if I can explain. Along with me and many others, the OP was able to get it to work so they marked my post as the solution.
