Inserting CAD in Revit (different layers in Floor plan)

Good afternoon,

I'm trying to load a specific drawing (DWG) into Revit, but the layers are different on different floor plans. I've disabled certain layers in AutoCAD and also in Revit via Imported Categories, but the layers aren't disabled. Is there a solution for this? I'd like to load only one drawing per floor and disable certain layers via Imported Categories.

Thanks in advance.

If I understand correctly, you have CAD drawings of various floors and are trying to see the DWG linework on each floor in Revit?

  • Are your cad floor plans individual DWG's or one DWG with multiple attached xrefs?
  • When linking the DWG have you tried selecting the "Levels/Layers" option and setting it to either Visible or Select?
    • Visible should only show the layers that are on in the DWG's
    • Select will allow you to select the layers you want on or off when it loads.

Did you import or link the CAD file? Link is almost always the best practice.

Thanks for your responses.

I'm doing this as Import CAD.

The AutoCAD files are loaded separately for each floor.

I mean that they're visible on certain layers on one floor, but not on another (for example, Gas Pipe).

If I disable these via Imported Categories, nothing changes (very strange, actually), but I can disable them in AutoCAD.

I attached some print screens.

I would definitely advise against importing cad files. But, the issue is likely different. You may have blocks with different layers within them that are behaving unintuitively. Check to see if the content in question is blocks or nested blocks with defined layers within them.

Importing that kind of file is not a recommended practice. Linking is the ideal way to do it and make controlling visibility easier.

Good morning,

It turns out the layer I wanted to do was a HACH. This was under another layer. 😊 It's fixed now, thanks for your replies.
