Grips using a reference line in section view

Hi guys,

I have two things I need help on.

First - For some reason I am not able to create a reference line within the revit family to allow me to drag the reference line up/down in a section view because it is not visible for some reason. I think it's supposed to be fully constrained in order for the grip to show?  Also, I associated it to an instance parameter. Not sure what I'm doing wrong.  It's been awhile.  I have created a trapeze with the grip and it seems to work fine in the past.

Second -  Revit does not appear to have allow you to create a parameter that reads into the offset or elevation of a family.  Has anyone been successful in getting that offset distance from reference level?  Thanks in advance.

I think I know the answer but like to see your family in order to confirm it.

That sounds encouraging!  Here is a simple block family and a working trapeze family that I updated.

Yes, just as I expected.  You need to TAB to change the dimension to the reference plane, not the Level.  Then assign an instance parameter to the dim.

See attached.

Wow.  It was that simple?! LOL  You're my savior, Toan!  So if I have 3 hangers (on a trapeze family) and wanted to individually control each all thread hanger, I just need to create 3 reference lines, then?  I'm attaching one I'm working on. Thanks again! 🙂

I tried it, but only one grip shows.  Is it because I'm referencing the same reference plane, I wonder..?  I uploaded the updated family.  Please check and see if you can see my error. Thanks, Toan!

Yes. 3 reference lines and 3 instance parameters. Always use a reference plane, not Level, for the witness line for the dimensions in order to show the grips in project.

Toan,

I wonder if you can look at the new trapeze family that I just uploaded.  It's got the same name.  I'm trying to create 3 separate grips, but still not working.  Thanks!

You are using parameters driven by formulas for two of the three.  I changed them to regular parameters then they all work.

Nice!  Thanks a bunch, Toan.  I'll work with the formula later, but this works! 🙂
