Does direct shape mean that only the geometric information is in the IFC?

Drafting is a breeze and Revit doesn't always work the way you think it should.

I've gotten IFC duct files that were just a block that I used for a guide to draw my own duct. However, I have gotten

structural IFC files that had the steel information in it. My wild guess is it depends on the program that was used to create the original model.

what program did the IFC come from. If I remember correct from the last time i had to deal with that, if the designation is not properly assigned in the IFC file Revit doesn't know what it is and wont convert it properly.
