Digit Grouping & Electrical Demand Factors By Load

Not sure where to post this. This may or may not be a "bug" I guess, but it would be nice to have addressed either way. In REVIT 2020 & 2021 (haven't checked older versions but would guess it's the same), the "digit grouping" option seems to break customizing demand factors by load.

Our firm likes to use digit grouping for apparent power (Project Units -> Electrical -> Apparent Power -> digit grouping) to help make large values easier to read in panel schedules and other schedules. However, with digit grouping on, if trying to edit a demand factor set "by load" and you try to input a number larger than 1,000, then REVIT gives an error or wont accept the value. Anything below 999 is okay. I believe this is because the "comma" inserted by the digit grouping once you hit 1,000 changes it from number to string or something.

If anyone else comes across this, just be aware that you have to temporarily turn off digit grouping, then can input numbers larger than 1,000, and then go back and re-apply digit grouping. Once they are set, REVIT will still calc everything just fine with digit grouping, it just doesn't allow edits to the demand factors. I haven't found a different way to allow edits with digit grouping turned on.

For Autodesk - if it would be possible for digit grouping to not apply to the demand factors editing windows or otherwise allow editing large numbers in this window with digit grouping on, that would be appreciated. Thanks for your time.

Did you try inputting the values with and without the grouping?

Thanks for the input, I'll try posting over on the ideas forum. I'll just close this I guess.

 

Also, yes, if digit grouping is turned "off" it will work just as intended and allow inputting desired values. When digit grouping is "on", it causes the error. It's easy enough to turn on and off, I think its just a few extra steps that shouldn't be necessary (but not like its something that is done all the time either though, so not end of the world..). It was just a matter of trying to figure out what was causing the error and how to resolve, since the error was fairly generic and only seems to be caused by an internal issue.

My question was if you had tried inputting the values with the separator? Just a wild donkey guess on my part

If digit grouping is "on", then no version of input that I could think of would work. It wont accept just a large integer value (ie 20000 or even =20000); hard to explain, but it wont let you hit "enter" and just sits in the selection box like it still wants you to enter something. If manually adding the comma (ie 20,000), then it gives the error shown in my image above. If manually adding comma and equal sign (ie =20,000), then error box says "Comma not expected". This error is what made me think to check the digit grouping checkbox. Once turning digit grouping off, it all works fine. I'm fairly certain this little issue is just related to the digit grouping being turned on. Hope this is what you were asking.
