Control of Hidden Mechanical Ducts, Equipment, etc..

Has anyone figured out how to make lines for hidden mechanical ducts, equipment, etc.. push to separate layers when exporting to Acad? IE: Hidden lines for Ductwork could go on M-HVAC-DUCT-HIDN instead of A-Detl, Mech equipment Could go on M-Eqmt-Hidnm etc...

I don't think there is any way to accomplish that, but you could get them on their own layer. At best, in the "DWG Export" dialog, you can click on the "Browse.JPG" button next to the pull down for "Select Export Setup". Then, under the Layers tab, go to the Lines Category » MEP Hidden subcategory, and add the layer modifier {Custom 1} and/or {Workset} if applicable. Scroll down to 'Modifiers' to define {Custom 1}.

As an example, if you have Ductwork on a "DUCTS" Workset, add {Custom 1} as "M-HVAC-" and {Workset} and move to top, you will have them on the layer: "M-HVAC-DUCTS-A-DETL".

You cannot separate them by System (unless each System in on its own Workset), but it will separate them from the rest of the lines on "A-DETL". Hope this helps...

The idea is perfect !

Only one problem, Revit does not do it correctly. I added the modifier for workset and then put the diffusers, duct and hvac equipment on their own worksets and it does put the ductwork on a layer/workset perfectly. But the diffusers and equipment go on the standard hidden layer and no workset associated with it. Thanks for the pointers anyway.

Then the only other option you have is to choose "Export all properties BYLAYER, and create new layers for overrides" from the 'Export layer options:' pull down menu. This will only work if your mech equip, air terminals, etc. are different colors. This will make the layers "A-DETL-1", "A-DETL-2", etc. for each different color of the lines.

Thanks for the help!

Looks like Autodesk has a little bit of work to do to refine this process. I have put it on the wish list anyway.
