Changing display of rigid duct into flex

Anonymous

Hello all,

Please help me with changing only look of rigid duct to flex. I want to prepare model using rigid ducts but on the sheet I dont want to suggest rigid ducts but flex ducts. I could just put into model flex ducts but it is problematic due to collisions. It is way easier to coordinate collisions using rigid ducts. So is there any way to change only display  of rigid ducts to make them look like flex ducts?

Thanks in andvance!

Hello @Anonymous ,

Unfortunately there is no way for a rigid duct to look like flex duct, though you can use pattern but still it will look like a rigid duct.

Yes, I was trying those patterns but like you have said, it still looks like rigid duct. Thats not what I need. But big thank You for your replay anyway!

Have you tried the "Convert to Flex Ducts" tool?

Coordinating with flex duct should not be an issue. In fact, I would not include them in the interference reports. They are flex ducts and as such are flexible. They can be very tricky to edit if you are really required to model them without interferences but it is doable with practice.

Unfortunately we always have to deliver clash free reports. Thats why we are using rigid ducts to make it ASAP and it would be nice to just change the look of those rigid ducts into flex because on the construction site they are always using flex ducts anyway. Also we need to show bottom of ducts tags and Revit does not tagging it automaticly like on the rigid ducts. But thanks for Your answer!

Yeah, flex duct doesn't have a BOD parameter to tag as it varies because it's... flexible, thus all that you could hope for is a single point elevation.

Have you looked at the convert to flex duct tool?

I did but the main problem is that the way of new flex duct is completely different than rigid ducts and coordinating flex ducts is just taking too long. Also changing duct with this tool is possible maximum for 20 feets.

I agree that editing flex duct is a bit of a struggle but it can be done. Also, you may want to check your construction standards as to the maximum length of flex duct. Around here it is 6 feet. Revit also has a setting for the maximum length of flex duct that can be changed.

Good luck.
