Element Hosting

Hi All,

I work in the MEP sector and as such have a question relating to the hosting of elements to a linked Revit file. When we setup a model we link architect and structural models and our model only contains MEP items such as containment, ducts, pipes etc.

Could someone explain why if a wall, ceiling or floor is moved in the linked file any element that has used it as its host becomes orphaned and not moves with it ?

The walls, ceilings or floors in the linked file have not been moved or modified they have been deleted and redrawn. Its a nightmare and why I would never create any family's with a hosting. I have had instances where DBs have been deleted because of this causing huge problems with circuits

A terrible process I have witnessed is when the architects 'move' the wall or ceiling, many times they will delete it and redraw it. This gives the new element a different Element Id, thus leaving the hosted element orphaned.  But the users linking in the Arch model never know that the wall was deleted and redrawn, it just looks like it was moved..
