Changes in Revit 2015 and further... Central Model Functionality

Am I understanding this correctly?... I have been told from multiple sources that Revit no longer resolves a Model's drive letter back to UNC path. As I understood it... this was new in 2015... and more has been done in Revit 2016.

Is this the case?  ... or is this an option?

Why did Autodesk done this?... and

What different flexabiliy and or options now exists because of this change?

This behavior has been raised with our development team and is corrected in the Revit 2016 Release.
