Can't Change System Type

I have a mechanical piping model and a plumbing model. I need to be able to work on both of them in the same model, so I linked the plumbing model into the mech piping model, binded the link, and ungrouped it, so now essentially they are one model combined together. However, it seems like some of the system types for piping didn't transfer with it's associated piping. In the stand alone plumbing model everything is correct - domestic cold water is System Type domestic cold water, storm drain above ground is System Type storm drain above ground, where the over flow ties in, that branch is System Type overflow, where sanitary sewer transitions from sewer to vent, there is a clear switch from System Type sanitary sewer to vent. But when I link & bind the model storm sewer has a system type of undefined and when I click the drop down to menu for System Type, there are no other system type options; all the domestic water lines are now shown as domestic hot, and there is not transition from san sewer to vent, it just shows it all as sewer.

The piping system families are in the project browser. I had linked & binded these models previously with older versions of the model, and that time it worked fine, so I'm not sure why it's not working this time

Hi there,

If you end up with an undefined pipe or duct system for any reason, a way I find works to get a recognised system type back onto it is to add an extra piece of pipe/duct onto the undefined system. Prior to joining the new piece on, set the system type to the one you require. This should then transfer to the undefined one. You can then delete the additional piece of pipe or duct.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Simon.

I tried doing that to one of my storm drains, it worked, but I lose my overflow designation on their branches & it wont let me change just those branches, it changes everything. I was hoping there would be an easier way, like just selecting the system. When I tried doing the same thing for my domestic cold, to change it from hot, but it just makes that branch line coming off it as cold

That's kind of the thing with Revit pipes and ducts, once they're connected they generally act as one. The other way I've used in the past which could get frowned upon is to not use Revit Link to bring in the other pipes etc... In your PH project, copy to clipboard all of the elements you want in the Mech project. Go into the mech project and go into an elevation view and use 'Paste Aligned to Picked Level' and then select the level representing the lowest copied item. This should paste all items in along with their systems as they were.

For some reason when I link in the plumbing model, it still has all it's system types associated with the piping. It's just when I bind it, that's when it loses or changes the system type

I'm not sure why it worked before but wont work now

Hello,

Whenever you bind a link, all pipe systems are not transfered and they need to be recreated again, the option would be to use Dynamo to recreate everything from the link to the host file. But I am not sure if it is possible.

Did you find any alternative? I am facing same issue, even after splitting pipe.  these are acting as connected system pipe. nothing works.

Honestly, this was so long ago, I don't remember. Sorry

has anyone tried it with dynamo or API and worked with him ?
