Sync to central in background

Sync to central in background

I would love to be able to sync to central and reload in the background, so that I could continue working while Revit updates my model. I fully understand the issues with this, but the benefits easily outweigh the problems, especially when I start running into 20 minute sync times.

Dear reader,

Revit is a powerful software tool for architecture, engineering, and construction professionals. However, one limitation of Revit's current functionality is that users are required to pause their work while syncing with the server. This can be time-consuming and frustrating, especially when working on large projects.

To address this issue, we propose implementing a background sync feature within Revit. This would allow users to continue working in Revit while syncing in the background, greatly improving workflow efficiency and productivity.

Imagine being able to make changes to your Revit model while the background sync automatically updates the server, without interrupting your workflow. This would save valuable time and reduce the risk of data loss or inconsistency.

Overall, we believe that implementing a background sync feature in Revit would greatly benefit users and improve the software's functionality. We look forward to seeing this feature added to future versions of Revit.

With friendly greetings,

Marwan

I see this comment from 2019.   Autodesk should note that background sync's and wait state saves (continuous save) would save user time, money and frustration with lost data.    I work on large jobs in Revit.  We want to work on large jobs in Revit.  Autodesk wants us working on large jobs.  But....   the syncs get long (5, 10, 20 min) and you cannot work during the sync.   Since they take a long time, folks delay sync'ing, which increases the sync time and increases the risk that a system crash will lose data.   I have long wanted Revit to utilize wait state syncs for data records, and allow the user to continue working while sync'ing the main data file.   As I near the end of a large job, in BIM360 current form, I lose an hour or two per day just in syncs.   I have to sync to capture data.   Revit is currently like a tractor pull.   The longer you pull, the more weight that is applied until you reach failure.     We only hope the failure point is out past the needs of the job.    Continuous / wait state syncs would mitigate most of this issue.   Thank you for listening.

Would it be possible for Revit to synchronize to the central model in the background? On large projects it can take a long time while user can't continue his or her work.
