Shared Families

Shared Families

One of the main complaints about modeling a multi-building project using multiple Revit files is having to load the same family into multiple files... and what happens once the family is modified in one building? how do we make that change to the family in the other models? well, we can transfer project standards but this is an all or nothing situation. Also, we end up with multiple copies of the same families. Another issue is, what if a family is modified in two models? who wins? there is no way to know which one is the latest version or what is different about it.

Wouldn't it be great if there was a way to Share Families and load them in multiple Revit files?
Shared families would be identified by an icon so the user knows that a particular family is being shared amongst other files.
Share families would also tell the user which models they are loaded into and warn before editing the family.

Yes! This would be a very important functionality for multi-building (or just multi-model) projects.

In the same vein we need to be able to share system family types, materials, and groups among models.

Shameless plug for an idea I posted recently.
