Revit for Mac

Please start producing REVIT for Mac. It is a must have application for architecture students and the mac industry occupies a huge part of the computer industry. We really need the software.

Hello there 

I want to have a - REVIT - version for iPad at least a light version that have the essential tools like what you did with AUTO CAD you can  divide  it in to several apps according to discipline - REVIT architectural , REVIT structure……..  - so that it become easy to optimize it for iPad Really -REVIT- for iPad will be very useful 

you can mace it one time purchase for each new version - 2022 , 2023 …. Because I don’t like or support subscription plans because it’s really expensive especially for whom live in countries where dollar is equivalent to big amount of money of the local currency so one time payment is better in this case 

As for -REVIT- on Mac OS  I’m a person who don’t like windows os but I’m forced to deal with it because there is no -REVIT- for Mac OS which I doesn’t understand why  Specially that you have as example- AUTO CAD - for Mac OS which was better than widows version …

this problem is not only -REVIT- 3d s max and other programs and rendering programs there are many people prepare to use Mac OS so a -REVIT- version will be really useful

There is a version of AutoCAD available for the Ipad and other tablets I believe, so I wouldn't know why this couldn't be done for Revit, even though this would not be the ideal setup for modeling it would be cool to make.

Yes I know that there is Auto CAD for iPad and its Interface is symbol nice and yes Revit for iPad would not be the perfect set up for molding it will be very helpful when you are on the go or have an idea you won’t to check it’s dimension quickly specially when iPads is becoming more popular and more powerful and in some cases a replace for laptops for some people for me if I could use the essentials in Revit like - walls , doors windows , roofs ,stairs , model in place some annotation tools importing and exporting DWG , Pdf , JPEG ……. - on my iPad I wouldn’t use my laptop again only for larger projects or rendering
Lots of my friends won’t so , also many achievements new days tend to use I pad more so Revit for iPad would be really popular and helpful

So should I expect that it will be taken in consideration soon ?

Been following this thread for 2+ years and we’re all just wasting our time. 

Autodesk doesn’t care about it’s users, in these 2 years there has been no response from them, other than a youtube video where cocky developers briefly said they are never going to develop Revit for mac(and they turned comments off on the video, to hide what’s going on in its community). And they couldn’t even give a proper reason as to why. Yeah I understand that Revit is built on Windows libraries or whatever and to make a mac version they’d have to remake the program, but for a software where people pay over 4000$ A year for the buggiest and least documented “professional” program ever, does not make sense. These past 2 years has been hell, mainly because of having to use Windows for one program. 
That leaves only one option remaining. 

Autodesk does not give a ****, what we want, disgraceful company, only out for money 😞

On my free time, i started to learn ArchiCad and i would recommend it to everyone. It doesn’t have all the fancy features we have in revit, but there’s more hope of them adding those features, before autodesk will ever do anything.

Too bad Autodesk does not care about customer requests. I guess they are too big to fail and they know it…

I just keep producing document for construction and walk through my client
to 2D and help them to understand it but I am not changing from Mac to
Windows I am not doing it

I also decided to look for alternative that work on Mac and I pad i heard about archi cad and I’m willing to learn how to use it soon specially that I don’t use all the fancy features I mainly use it to draw floor plans because it’s better than AutoCAD and easier to modify as for 3d modeling i use it for simple modeling .

I think you are right but if we all started to look for alternative better companies and support them they will be better than Autodesk

We run Revit via windows on VMWare and so far have not had any issues.  We've worked with some pretty large files too.  However, we are not doing any rendering so I can't speak to that.  This at least keeps us working on our Macs for the time being.  We will see how things play out in the future.

I think the best thing we can hope for is what Revit's replacement turns out to be.  If it's truly cloud based with a local client that Autodesk is developing themselves from the ground up, then there should be no reason they can't accommodate both platforms.  Revit's history is complicated but a completely new platform gives them plenty of opportunity with todays technology to develop for both platforms.

Hi Everybody,

I'm a product manager on the Revit product development team - meaning I am responsible for the roadmap and strategy for the Architecture customer segment using Revit.  I am not a developer, I don't write any code - mainly I make and present PowerPoint slides - but in all seriousness, I am one of people that helps determine what our development teams builds for Revit and why we work on that and not other things.  Mainly, you can think of product managers as the people that sometimes say "No" to your great ideas (there are just too many of them).    

I don't have much to say on this topic other than what many of you have so eloquently already said.  We (the Revit product team) are not planning on creating a Mac native version of Revit.  

We have seen a very strong community desire (architects in particular) for Revit on the Mac, there is no doubt.  It's also clear how much love there is for Mac computers, but in our thinking, the return on this investment is not justified at this time. 

The resources and time necessary to provide a good native experience on the Mac would impact our ability to deliver any other functionality, enhancements and even fixes, for our current Windows product.  We have decided to prioritize those things on the current Windows product over providing a Mac native version.  

We do offer an alternative way to use your Mac and Revit: virtualization (VMware or Parallels being options) or using remote desktop technology to remotely access another Windows machine from your Mac.  You can also use cloud PC technology (from any cloud PC provider) to access a Windows machine from your Mac.  As a Revit subscriber, virtualization is fully supported with Autodesk's licensing.  This also means that other types of machines can access Revit this way as well (iPads, Chromebooks, or other ARM based computers).   

I've said my piece.  I do appreciate your feedback in this thread. We believe however, that this is the right decision for the totality of our customers. I recognize this will make some of you unhappy. I hope my explanation above helps you understand our reasoning. You will not see me reply to any other comments in this thread - I will still read them all, just don't expect a response from me.

This is confirmation of what has already been said in the customer requests: Autodesk’s focus is, strictly, making money. Customer requests will be disregard if it takes effort on your part to deviate from what you’ve done for decades (especially if it doesn’t make you money right away). You are not worried about losing market because you have a monopoly and customers will have to adapt to what you’re willing to offer. You will not bother answering any more of the comments because of the above and that’s that.

What would people say if Autodesk came out and announced "although it will slow down development/fixes for Revit for windows, we will develop a Mac version nevertheless because we want to capitalize on the Mac market".

Just imagine how outraged existing Windows customers would be.... I bet they would accuse Autodesk of the exact same thing you're accusing them of...  "Autodesk is only out to make money, they don't care about their (existing) customers!".

They can't win whatever they do.

For what it's worth: as a windows user I support this decision to not prioritize a Mac version over improving Revit for windows.
