Reload Linked Files from Ribbon

Reload Linked Files from Ribbon

To my knowledge, and I'm happy to be corrected, linked files such as pdf, dwg files etc. can only be re-loaded through the 'Manage Links' tool. This is cumbersome in my opinion, especially if small and frequent adjustments are being made to the linked files to affect the file's graphical display in Revit. An example may be the scale of hatch in a linked CAD file may need to be adjusted in AutoCAD to ensure that the hatch is reading appropriately when imported into Revit. Many of these adjustments can result in a lot of time being spent going into Manage Links.

Why not modify the interface whereby if you select a linked file in the model, in a drafting view etc, then a 'reload' button comes up in the ribbon. This would negate the need to keep going back and forth into the Manage Links tool to have the linked files refreshed.

Please add an option to reload CAD files in the right click context menu or in the modify tab (where marked in the PDF). It will take time to go to Insert>Manage Links>CAD formats... and find it out in the BIG list...

Yes. A good idea. It is useful for us also. As we are using some other design software for RC detailing. The output is in dxf format and the same we will link to revit. So there will be many CAD files for each floor. Also we will modify the output CAD files to match with Revit. This is most useful when there is a need of more RELOAD and linked CAD files.

Due to the idiosyncrasies of text formatting in CAD files linked into Revit (and the frequent need to edit-save-reload our general notes multiple times), it would be really convenient to just be able to select the general notes Import Symbol and click "Reload" on the contextual ribbon tab (instead of the 5 clicks it takes now). It would also be useful in other cases (as mentioned by others above) where there are many CAD files and/or names are similar and hard to differentiate (you wouldn't have to worry about finding the correct one in the dialog).

Adding the same function to Revit links would probably be helpful as well, but we probably wouldn't need it as often.

Please either create a "reload all links" button or add the a function allowing reload CADLinkType directly to the API so that we can write such a tool. It is takes way to many clicks to force reload on a specific linked CAD file.

Links would be more user friendly if you have a simplified way of reloading links, instead of going through the Manage Links dialog. Wouldn't it be easier to reload a link by clicking on it and then having the option to click reload link?

You can. Go to project browser, scroll down to linked files, right click on the file you want to reload, select Reload link. You can also adjust the open worksets from the link here.

You can do that also, but the process of scrolling to the bottom of the project browser and right clicking the link and reloading it that way seems too long of a process. If you are working with multiple links (example: linked units in multi-family) and you are constantly reloading links, it seems like it would be so much easier to just be able to click a button at the top where the manage links and bind links buttons are.

Instead of going into the Manage Links dialogue, find the linked file, and reload, it would be great if there was a "reload" button in the properties dialogue when you have the linked file selected.

If a view has a linked Revit or Autocad etc. file in it, it would be extremely helpful to be ably to click on the file in the view and either have a command to reload the file, or right click and hit reload, rather than having to go to manage links and find the file in the list and then reload from there.

This would be especially helpful when there are lots of linked Autocad files it the project.

I wonder if people at autodesk actually use revit for work?

A simple right click on a revit link, and select reload in the context menu, would save so much time every day.

@brj What do you mean? Of *course* they don't use Revit... that's why they send support requests to *real* users first! LOL
