Refresh document constructions

Refresh document constructions

At the moment a hard coded list of element constructions (for walls, floors, glazing etc.) is provided to the user to assign design analytical properties for that element type. The file is in XML format and is found in Revit's ProgramData folder. Users are able to manually add constructions to the XML file, but they would need administrative access to write to both file and folder. Updates to the construction.xml can also only be seen once Revit is restarted.

To allow broader and more useful access to element constructions our ideas are:

  1. Better access to the constructions list for users with restricted privileges
  2. Allow users to edit existing and add new constructions
  3. Allow for the document constructions list to be refreshed from the document
  4. API access to all of the above

Thanks for your consideration!

To elaborate on point 3: "Allow for the document constructions list to be refreshed from the document"

At the moment, users are able to update the constructions.xml file at any time. However in the Revit session, only the first update to the constructions.xml file will be propagated to the session (i.e. visible to the Revit user) for selection. Any further updates are added to the xml file, but are not visible for selection by the user until they restart Revit.

It would be great if all changes to the constructions.xml file were propagated to the Revit session (manually or automatically), so that the user is able to select all the constructions described in the xml file.

*Bump* Is there an answer to @egarden_fenestrapro_com's 2nd point? Is this possible through the API?
