Rebar Shape Detail command

Rebar Shape Detail command

Rebar Shape Detail command is a very useful function that enables you to see exact dimensions and shape of any drawn rebar in 2D view. Unfortunately it is still not implemented in Revit.

If you want to see more about this function take a look at YouTube video below:

They have many other features with higher priority: Cloud platform, how to improve/change the way people make things, marketing, etc. to achieve more customers. That's why many features in this Revit Ideas forum needed for real life projects are still ideas (some archived). And the roadmaps on their blog about enhancements, new features, etc. just don't hold any assurance to even exist in the next releases or roadmaps.

@htlcnn: If i were Autodesk, my highest priority would be to make money. That means selling things that people desire. Nobody buys un-useful things. Rebar Shape Detail is a CRITICAL aspect of rebar fabrication and mounting in the right position. Misplaced rebars is the most common mistake on construction sites and the most time-consuming mistake to fix. Rebar Shape Detail is mandatory requirement for ALL construction projects in EU, Russia, China, South America. Basically, on 2/3 of this planet the rebar shape detail is required.

This extension: https://apps.autodesk.com/RVT/en/Detail/Index?id=8972329327921706347&appLang=en&os=Win64 costs 10 bucks !! How hard could be to implement it directly into Revit ?? The financial impact would be like 0.002%.

I tried that addon and while it works for standard shapes it can't draw
complex rebar shapes so it's far from ideal but a good start. Autodesk
should be ashamed that such a simple feature isn't implemented so far!

Hi,

it's a shame we have to ask for a standard feature like this. When I login Revit Ideas Forum and look at still "gathering support", just makes me cry.....

I also started another thread at the same time to try to enhance Revit rebar capabilities:

https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/revit-ideas/rebar-and-fabrics-schedule-like-sofistik-reinforcement/id...

So, if you want to support this too, please vote.....

PS: I wonder why there aren't more votes for this feature? Could be just few firms use Revit for rebar detalling so far?

@Anonymous: The truth is most people are afraid of creating/trying something new. They got accommodated doing things in certain ways and they resist to anything new (using the old stupid motif: why change it if it ain't broken?, why change it if it works?). People are doing Autocad,  Allplan, Tekla, even pencil drawing. People won't switch to Revit unless they are absolutely sure it's simpler and safer than anything else.

I hate when people tell me how easy is to "draw/model" reinforcement in Allplan. It actually is, but the project management is a nightmare, very complicated, like any german machinery.

I hate when people tell me how easy is to model reinforcement in Tekla. It may be, but the shop drawings are a nightmare, needing constant checking for misplaced dimensions, labels. Drawing layout is also kinda stupid. Export to dwg is very loose (no mtext, no dimension styles, no polylines, no hatches), just old dxf style (lines&dots).

I don't even want to start about Autocad. It's older than any BIM software.

@ovidiu_paunescu

Hi Ovidiu,

is there a chance Revit will implement this tool any time soon?

Regards!

Rebar shape detailing is really needed! it's exremely important. FFS R2020 is almost released and there's no trace of shape detailing!

Hi,

Revit 2020 is out there and this feature is still missing....:-(

...it's not even mentioned on Revits road map.....

Regards!

At this point it's just disappointing to see that Autodesk is pretending
that Revit is a full package out of the box and that there is no additional
functionality needed. They are making functions like free form rebar and
other unique cases. Rebar details and bending schedules are basic things
and should be provided in Revit from the start.
They should be ashamed.

Hi,

it's been more than two years that this post is active but nothing happened! Why is this so difficult to implement!? SOFISTIK which is a third party software has it........Autodesk Advance Structural Concrete had it in ACAD environment.....

Regards!

Hi all again!

Yes, sofistik has it... probably that's why autodesk don't want to implement (?)

I really don't know why they don't make something for engineers... It's extremely needed...

I hope for the 2021 version...

I am kind disappointed by autodesk...

Probably is not that simple to do this feature, but is neither so difficolt to do a geometry extract of a reinforcement that could be taggable...

Hi,

it's been a while since I posted this topic. Does anyone know when topics from ideas forum get accepted or rejected?

Kind regards!

PS: One thing that I also posted on idea forum at the same time is this:

Rebar and Fabrics Schedule like SOFISTIK Reinforcement

@Anonymous: When your idea is accepted, you'll see it in the Revit Roadmap: https://blogs.autodesk.com/revit/2019/08/23/revit-public-roadmap-august-2019/

But don't expect any miracles, as it is updated pretty rare. And nothing about v.2021 yet (as of march 2020).

2021 and it's still without basic function..

It is really unfortunate this situation.
Sofistik is not a solution for complex structures.
Rebar shape detailing is essential in native revit

@Anonymous Totally true!

This looks like a temporary solution. Does anybody has it? Can anyone share this?
