In Windows text editing areas, the following keystrokes work consistently across the platform:
- Home - Move cursor to beginning of line
- <Ctrl>+Home - Move cursor to beginning of all text in editing area
- End - Move cursor to beginning of line
- <Ctrl>+End - Move cursor to end of all text in editing area
- <Ctrl>+<Left Arrow> - Move cursor to beginning of next word
- <Ctrl>+<Right Arrow> - Move cursor to beginning of previous word
- <Ctrl>+<Shift>+<Arrow key> - Select whole words (left/right arrows) or paragraphs (up/down arrows) in the direction of the arrow pressed.

In Revit, some of the standard keystrokes work in some areas, and not at all in others. Attempting to use these shortcuts presents unexpected behavior and errors in data entry:
- In annotation text items, the keys generally work.
- In a schedule <Ctrl>+<Arrow Key> or <Ctrl>+<Shift>+<Arrow Key> removes the cursor from cell editing mode and moves it to a different cell.
- In the Properties window, Family Types window, , <Ctrl>+anything leaves the cursor in place and nothing happens. This behavior is also noted in most other dialog boxes where data can be entered into a grid.
