Merge Open/project and Open/IFC

Merge Open/project and Open/IFC

Hello

Why is there a different menu to open an IFC file? I don't get it. When i choose an IFC file (or something else), the software see what it is, so it knows what it have to do.

We have to open it File/Open/IFC, instead of just click on the open icon.

It's useless.

ps: and by the way, merge it with open/family too. Same reason, the file format is obviously comprehensive.

The current method requires you to click on File>Open>IFC (specifically for opening IFC)

It would make better sense to click open in the quick access tool bar and able to open IFC files the same way you might open an rvt or rfa file...

Congrats! We think this is a great idea, so we've decided to add it to our roadmap. Thanks for the suggestion!

Basically there should be an Open button.  Revit will know what to do with it based on the file type (extension).  Based on this idea being accepted, my guess would be that is the plan hopefully.  In the open dialog, it would just automatically see every file type that it is capable of opening.  There should be an option there to select only those files of type xyz  for example if you need to narrow your options for some reason.

I'm amazed that after over 2 years I'm the first to vote for this simple idea...  perhaps it got overlooked??  Perhaps there are other same ideas out there that got the votes that this one should be merged with??
