MEP Connector Visibility YES/NO

MEP Connector Visibility YES/NO

Please make it possible to add Yes/No parameters to MEP connectors.

Take a radiator as an example, normally this has 6 connections, but we only use the tow of them.

But as it is now, we need to have a family for each connection type but this its still the same radiator, witch is confusing fore the contractor and the quantities.

Please se attached picture.

I am having the same issue.  My example is grease interceptors.  They can have multiple inlets and outlets, but only one inlet and one outlet will be used for each interceptor.  When the visibility parameter is assigned to an extrusion, and a connector is associated with that same extrusion, the connector's visibility should toggle along with the extrusion.

I work for an HVAC company and we have this same issue. We provide Kitchen hoods with varying supply riser connections. Some hoods will have 2 supply risers, while others will have up to 10. This requires us to have hundreds Revit models for all possible riser configurations. If conditional visibility was available for connectors we could narrow this down to a handful of families (probably around 4-6). with some extra effort we could probably et it down to 1 family. The lack of conditional visibility for the connectors is what is holding us back.

Autodesk, please make this available as soon as possible.

To sum it up, there are similar postings since 2008 and i don't know a positive reaction from Autodesk.

This is a MAJOR feature that is neccercary to work with Revit and Autodesk seems net to be willing to change this problem. Revit is getting more expensive continuously, but i cannot see any significant difference in revit that would warrant this rise.

@Martin__Schmid

Like many before me I am running into the issue of connectors always being visible, even when hosted by geometry that is not set to visible.  Detailers I support are asking for generic families with multiple type configurations consisting of many sizes/layouts, trying to avoiding multiple families in favor of one.  There have been suggestions of adding a visibility feature similar to that of geometry, controlled by yes/no parameters.  Has any talk or work been put into this?  Is this a feature we can expect?

@Martin__Schmid a status on this?

@ViviNyehuusAndersen  - there is no change to the status, it is still "Gathering Support".. if that changes, it will be shown in the top right corner of the original request.  Further, if there is change, information will be shared on the Revit Public Roadmap.

@Martin__Schmid So I can see. Trying to pressure you friendly a bit here:) I´m following the RoadMap, not a big fan of the trello version, but still hoping to see this on the board.

I still hope to see this happen!

You guys spent all this time explaining the ins and outs of hydronics to this @martin.schmid guy and he's done NOTHING. Gathering support my ass. This is a simple addition to the connector functionality. WE NEED THIS.

It's been 5 years for Pete's sake.

I also get frustrated, but there is no good reason to get personal or not to keep a good tone @Uriga  🙂 Martin is not single man to decide what or not direction to go ..

Got same problem when create family with many types.

Autodesk should action for this issue.

The most straightforward way to do this is to allow us an "Active/Inactive" Checkbox on every connector type with the addition of a grey box for linking to a parameter. Then we can toggle these connectors on and off at will....

When active the connection is visible,  the system will calculate etc.

When Inactive the connection is invisible, system will not calculate.

Just implement it, it doesn't need user support. Its a feature that should of always existed.

Hello from 2021.
Thank you all. Discussion was very informative.
But still waiting for solution🤗
It will be greate for family when connectors of nested component can be availible to use in Project inviorenment.

Hello in 2022, still nothing?
I fully support this request as I am currently dealing with creating a manifold family, where this simple feature would make all the difference:

I've seen a manifold before where the pipe connectors were actually driven by the amount of physical connectors, but I am unable to recreate it. Any suggestions?

All you can do is create a separate family for every unique quantity of connectors.

@scott.daikin

That is completely ludicrous especially for something such as a manifold of which in one family there could be up to 12 even 16 ports. Essentially by using that method you would have 16 nested families in main family, the file size alone would be unmanageable let alone when it gets placed "x" amount of times throughout a project.

It really is not much to ask for a visibility option for MEP connectors.

Additionally allowing system type on the connector to be controlled via a type parameter rather than a fixed type would make system construction so much easier and faster. Frustratingly it is still the case that I have to have multiple families of the same model with different MEP connectors for the various system types.

You misunderstand, I agree with you.

You can't have multiple nested families because it is only the top level family connectors that work. They would all need to be separate, non-nested families.

Apologies, I thought you were suggesting unique nested families within the main family.

Not so much. You can use them but once you put the connectors in the top level family and swap out the nested family geometry the connectors don't move or update. It doesn't work.

Any update @Martin__Schmid ? This would be a huge help to designers.
