Currently users have no control over the length or complexity of URLs for items such as equipment, furniture, fixtures, finishes, etc. Long and complex URLs have very limited use in printed schedules.
If Revit integrated bit.ly or a similar URL shortening service URLs would be a predictable length and short enough to read off a piece of paper and type into a browser, if necessary.
Ideally Revit would have two fields for URLs: one field for the original long URL and another field for the shortened URL. Also, it would be preferable for the user to have some control over the creation of the unique identifier in the shortened URL (omitting numerals and/or using only uppercase characters, for instance).
