Transparency in printed PDFS and exported Images

Transparency in printed PDFS and exported Images

Ability to export PDFs with transparent parts where no geometry exists, alpha channel taken into consideration. Same with PNGs and TIFFs allowing for a smaller file size, faster printing AND most importantly avoiding unneccessary post production workflows.

Congrats! We think this is a great idea, so we've decided to add it to our roadmap. Thanks for the suggestion!

It is bad enough that you need to use the rasterized mode when printing transparencies generated by filters or general overrides.

I just realized that this approach does not work at all if the printed view is in wireframe mode. Surely this is not intentional, especially since the transparent element appear correctly on screen.

Btw. I stumbled upon this in Revit 2019.2.6 and cannot currently be bothered to test grounds in a more recent version. I tried PDF24 and eDocPrintPro as PDF-printers and always ended up with vectorized output with no transparency.

It would be incredibly helpful to have the option to export images (e.g., renderings, ortho views, diagrams) with transparent backgrounds directly from Revit. Currently, users have to rely on external tools like Photoshop to remove the white background, which adds extra steps and reduces efficiency, especially when preparing presentations or overlays.

A built-in setting to export with transparency (e.g., PNG with alpha channel) would save time and streamline workflows for architects and designers.

Use cases include:

Overlaying views on different backgrounds.

Creating presentation graphics.

Exporting clean diagrams without a white box.

Enhancing visual clarity in design documentation.

Thank you!

Hallo,
