Anchor bolts need embedment length parameter

Anchor bolts need embedment length parameter

When specifiying an anchor bolt for a baseplate connection  you need to prescribe the minimum embedment of the bolt in the concrete to achive the required capacity of the anchor in tension and shear.

I have been able to model and document everything else you need to prescribe for an anchor bolt but there is no facility to prescribe min embedment.  Currently I have to add a text note at the end of the anchor bolt tag.

Can you add this simple property that can be modified in the baseplate type properties dialog.

You can add this to the family yourself. Its not that hard. Revit's default family libraries are far from all inclusive. You should really be modifying them or adding entirely new families to meet your needs.

I am not an expert so perhaps you can tell me how I can add this to the system family: Base Plate.  Revit will not let me edit a system family.

A base plate is a system family? I was just able to open one of the default ones from the Revit library and could add parameters to it if I wanted.

In the project browser, go down to Families -> Structural Connections -> the base plate you want -> Right Click -> Edit.

Look into shared parameters and making tags to learn how to make a new scheduleable and taggable parameter.

The base plate isn't a default base plate its generated by the Connection Automation routines using DYNAMO.  If it were a standard system family I would have a chance.

Additional information as below,
Actually I understand that we can make indicidual famileis as unchor bolt by myself.
But we want use the Automatic connecting for steel family function in Revit.
this functionalty is under controll by Dynamo, therefore we can't change any unchor bolt families.

And end of unchor bolt can't change to any style which is like 90 dgree angle or something.

Therefore,we strongly wish to add JIS contents in the Automatic connection steel family function for Japanse construction phase users.

Hello everyone,

thanks for sharing your feedback.

Just to clarify - @daa is talking about the Revit Steel Connections that are created using a command on the steel tab. We are not talking about components loaded as families.

And yes this is a current limitation that you can't have a direct access to the database of anchor bolts, bolts and studs to define you length (or any other needed parameter like diameter).

This is on our roadmap and definitely something to address.

Currently there is a workaround to modify those databases that is explained here > https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/revit-structure-forum/change-anchor-length-steel-connection/m-p/88260...

@M-F_mitsui - steel connections are not driven by Dynamo.
Only automation is using Dynamo to detect the nodes which comply to your pre-defined rules and places the connection accordingly. However after the connection is in the model you have access to it's type and instance properties and you can change all it's parameters.
