Allow Multi-Category Schedule to Show All Categories

Allow Multi-Category Schedule to Show All Categories

Currently, Multi-Category Schedules cannot schedule System Families. Consider the highly useful situation where you want to Schedule:

  • Keynote (from Type)
  • Description (from Type)
  • Type Mark (from Type)

... and you want to create this schedule across all of the elements in the entire project. This would be immensely powerful for model quality checking and also creating a unified, live project item code schedule. But it is currently impossible in normal Revit. It can be done with other tools like Dynamo, but these do not reference the model live and thus the information would need to be continually refreshed in that workaround.

We need to empower Multi-Category schedules to be truly multicategory, where they can reference at least the consistent Type parameters (shown above) from every Category.

The image below shows an example of how many different schedules are currently required just to accomplish the above for an Architectural model:

How much better it would be to make Multi-Category Schedules true to their name.

Agreed. I use material Schedules to do this but it should be possible with a standard multicategory Schedule!

Interesting idea @Anonymous, but it seems Material Takeoffs don't support a lot of categories either (like Casework or Railings)

Oh, Yeah that's right. I hadn't needed it for casework or railings but I can see your right. The other problem is you always need to have a material parameter included.

Congrats! We think this is a great idea, so we've decided to add it to our roadmap. Thanks for the suggestion!

Hi,

Are there any updates on this?... as it would be very useful for a project I am working on.

Cheers

what about the updates on this accepted idea ? why things take so long (half a decade) to be implemented ? We need a guy like ELON MUSK as CEO of autodesk.

We are pleased to say that this has been implemented in Revit 2022!

Great, thanks

glad to see there are a lot of scheduling enhancements in Revit 2022

How about Detail items?  Does a Multicategory Schedule include those in Revit 2022?  Some of my devices are 3D objects that need to be modeled for coordination, but others are system components that can be shown symbolically on plan, but they both need to be scheduled and quantified in our drawing set.

@paul.disney , Detail Items are not able to be scheduled in the multi-category schedule. Would you be willing to add a new Idea for this? Or we can post one on your behalf. Thank you for pointing this out!

I have posted this as a new Idea here:  Include Detail Item Families in Multi-Category Schedules.

@paul.disney  Perfect! Thank you!

@Tarek_K
What's the status of this request?
Seems like something overlooked long ago in the infancy of this product.
How can this still be an issue with the rising costs of now subscriptions instead of perpetual seats.
How is Autodesk using this kind of money? Is it for the end user or for your pockets?
The reason I put it like that is we're currently undergoing a P.O.C. (Proof of concept) for Revit at our firm and quite honestly it's not looking good.

How are you implementing this and what's the timeline?

@Tres_Hernandez ,

The original request for this Idea was Implemented in Revit 2022. Is there something specific that you are looking for? Please feel free to reach out to me directly.

Thank you!

@kimberly_fuhrman-jones ,

It would still be helpful to be able to combine both 3D elements and Detail Item families onto the same multi-category schedule.  While 2022 has MORE family types that can work on the same schedule, it is still not ALL of the types.  See this link for the post about including Detail Item Families:
