Allow free rotation of family instances just like steel plates

One of the amazing features of the "new" steel plate feature in Revit is the ability to rotate them freely, meaning by any 3D axis, from any viewpoint.  Please please please make it so family instances of Generic Model/Structural Connections families behave the same way.  The error "Can't rotate element into this position." is just simply embarrassing for a CAD platform in the modern age.  We work on complex geometry and the workaround to rotate a family instance to compound sloped column or wall is a nightmare.

The flexible behavior of plates needs to the be the future standard of how elements more and rotate (just like every other CAD platform on the market).  It'd be nice to even have the ability to align plates to 3D faces that aren't orthogonal to each other (similar to Inventor).  Hosting elements on rigid work planes and/or faces for parametric purposes can fade into oblivion.

This post is more than a year old and I'm somewhat surprised more people have not thought that allowing 3d rotation of objects is a feature that Revit should include. Coming from the AutoCAD work, the lack of a simple 3D rotation tool is incredibly frustrating. Revit is supposed to be a 3D modeling environment, but the ability to manipulate objects in all 3 dimensions appears to be mostly non-existent. The workarounds are also terrible.

Rotating of elements within familes and beeing able to control the rotation in all axies is also critical. You can somehow workaround this with adaptive families but those in turn can't be nested in regular families.
