BIM 360 Design - Freeze when saving to central

I am creating this post on behalf of a customer. When synchronizing to central using the Revit Cloud Worksharing on BIM 360 Design Collaboration, it will sometimes get stuck at "Save to central" on 3.5KB remaining up to the point where one has to close Revit via the Task Manager. Has anyone experienced this issue and if so, what would be the cause? The Internet Speed is fine (40Mbps Fibre).

Hello!

I have a customer who's experiencing the same issue, just with 1 KB/s left, instead of your 3,6. 🙂

My customer usesa Citrix VDI solution, basically just a Windows 10 virtual machine, works fine on a physical computer - I'm planning on looking through update history for the system to see if maybe a new Autodesk Desktop Connector broke it or something like that.

If we click anywhere it goes into "Not Responding" and has to be 'killed' through Task Manager.

A user even let it sit for 10 hours without any change.

Mine successfully saves to BIM 360 but then freezes, every time.  The message appears to say that I have successfully synched with Central and the dialogue box disappears, but then I'm left with just a frozen view.

I'm using Revit 2019.2.  I'm using v 12.5.0.999 of the desktop connector.  I'm an Admin on the project.

It stopped doing this for a period, but it's back again now.

When I close the app using Task Manager, the task ends but I sometimes get a message saying that don't have permission to do that.

I've tried logging on with local admin privileges, but still get the same result.

Any of the posts above found a solution? we're over 10 users with the same error.

It takes over 3 attempts, each one forcing Revit to close, to successfully sync to central.

We have no issues working from outside the workplace so is not a project or file problem.

Maybe workplace network firewall? Any specific ports need to be open?

Is there a error o log file for IT to troubleshoot?

Autodesk Experts looked into this error?

If you press the ALT key after Revit freezes, this sometimes brings up the shortcut icons.  If you click on the icon relating to synchronise, Revit springs back to life.  The issue I found is apparently known by Autodesk.  It only happens with release 2019.2, as I've been led to believe.

Thank you for the info @Anonymous . Will try it if it happens again.

happening on 2018.3 for me also on a relatively small C&S file through 360. Freezes up when finished saving/synchronizing

I found a 2018.3 way of unlocking similar to the above method of unfreezing it;

When it freezes up after SYNCHRONIZING I have to Alt+Tab to a different program, then Alt+Tab back to the Revit session.

Next I push Alt key to bring up the commands, then C for Collaborate, and then R for Reload Model and it will reload and  unlock the program.

It seems its hanging up on the reload or the last step of the Synch with the loacal save. Not sure but it works....for now. Not ideal and a workaround means the program or file is inherently broken somehow. I've never had this error happen before or with any other files. I've audited, compressed, purged, checked errors (120 of them). Not ideal by any means.

I'm having this issue with 2020 and the ALT solution at least unfreezes Revit for me. Thank you for this. Now if only Autodesk could repair this glitch with an update...

We have recently started running into this as well for 5 different users using BIM 360 Design for Revit 2019.2 and Revit 2020. While the "alt" trick does seem to work; this is beyond a hindrance and challenge - particularly for a company trying to rollout and adopt BIM 360 more.

Alright, I'm not trying to throw sand or anything, but it appears that this might be related to Enscape - at least for us. We're going through the add-in checking; but that is the likely culprit at the moment.

running 2018.3 w/ Enscape…. smells like that's it.  Well...if we wait long enough Autodesk will just buy them and it will be all 'fixed'

We have a user who froze without even having Enscape installed. So that may not be the culprit.

Are you all running Revolution Design Keynote Manager by chance? I recently upgraded to the latest version, wonder if that has anything to do with this.

I have this exact same issue.  I'm usually pretty good and troubleshooting, researching and finding a solution but this one is tricky.  Autodesk support has responded to my request for help and they're looking at it now.  I had already tried all of their suggestions.  I'm stumped!

Autodesk: It's probably a plugin causing the issue.

Also Autodesk: We don't want to build-in basic functions like Keynotes so you don't have to use third-party plugins.

We've confirmed in our case that it is the Enscape add-in (version 2.8) that apparently causes this. While the alt+tab / alt+tab / alt / [#] / [click] option does get us around it and technically keeps us functional, it isn't a viable remedy. Instead, we have asked users their need of Enscape and have uninstalled or temporarily deactivated the add-in on systems where the user is dependent on BIM 360.

I've spoke with support at Enscape and while they are tracking the issue, they have no other workaround and they do not know if/when they will get a fix for it. Hopefully I'll be able to update this post soon that they've resolved the issue; however, they are claiming that there was never a "claim to be BIM 360 compatible" since it is "third party." So we may be exploring all of our options moving forward.

Reverting back to previous version of Enscape (Version2.7) worked for me: https://enscape3d.com/version-history/

We use Keynote Manager which also has its issues of constant reloading even with the watcher turned off.  We don't use enscape.  We have the same hanging problem occuring
