YesNo parameter as project parameter

Hi Revit Users,

Just quick question....

Why Yes/No Parameter doesn't allow me to change the check

despite the one set in the family is changeable?

I would appreciate if you help me to understand about this difference.

Thanks,

Are you saying the one on the bottom can't be changed? It looks like it's locked via a formula.

Hi @barthbradley

It looks like so but it was created as a project parameter.

Neither I set it as project "instance" parameter or "type" parameter, I am not allowed to uncheck it...

Since it is not able to change in Family Editor, I have no way to add the formula in the first place.

Strange. If you applied it as a project parameter to door category, it should be selectable. The initial state will be gray like it is showing, which means it's inactive (=NULL), but you should be able to activate it by checking on it to make it On or Off.  This will remove its gray inactive state.

...I'm noticing something not right in your picture. Your picture shows the Instance Properties for the Door, yet Project Parameter you are showing is a Type Parameter. Additionally, the Door Category is not even checked in the Project Properties.  What gives?

...I'll tell you what I think.  "Yes/No in Project" is an Instance Parameter in the actual Door Family.  There is no correlation between the Project's "Yes/No in Project" parameter and the Family's "Yes/No in Project" parameter.  Additionally, I'm going back to my original assertion: the "Yes/No in Project" parameter in the Family is controlled by a formula.

That's my final answer. Do I win?

Um.... I am not convinced yet.

I added both instance and type parameters in Project and Family.

Only ones created in Project don't enable me to uncheck.

I am willing to add Yes/No Parameters in a project than into a family because I wanna link to text parameters after setting them as shared parameters.

I don't want to set these all parameters in each family but in a project or template.

I only test in construction template attached here.

I would be nice if you can check it.

Why did you add the parameter in both project and family?  It doesn't make any sense.  What is the purpose of the parameter so that we can give you a proper way to use it?

... and I can tick and untick your Project parameters just fine.  It is gray by default, meaning it is neither Yes nor No, you have to tick on it to change it to one or another.

I am afraid to say but now I realised that I just have to click once...

Because it was grayed out I thought I cannot click it!!

@ToanDN @barthbradley I am deeply sorry about it.

And I am not adding into both, I was experiencing which place is better to add the parameter, in a project or family.

Thank you both for your time!!

I would forgive you if I at least got a little green check mark for being right. But...

..whatever

If it is neither yes nor no then does that mean it can't be used in filters that look for one of those values? I would assume it would default to no, but i'm not sure.

No.  The initial value is "Null" and if you use a filter set to "equals" it will not equal either Yes or No.  You could filter for either Null or No by setting up the filter to be "does not equal" Yes.
