Windows to display sill and head height from from ground floor

Hi

I was wondering whether it is possible for upper floor windows to display sill and head heights which reference from the ground floor, rather than from their current level. E.g., I want the tag of the first floor window to show the sill height of 3.9m and the head height of 4.8m, rather than what is whon in the tag (See attached image)

It is possible but not really convenient for Revit. If you want to do it, create a shared parameter to fill in the height of the level within the window family. After that, create a window tag with the calculated value of sill height+shared parameter

Simply change the Level for the windows,

So what you are saying in essence, it that your Sill and Head Heights are measured from Ground Floor Level.  Is that about the size of it?  Easy solution: put all your Windows on the Ground Floor Level.

The windows need to show up on schedules as being on level 2, not level 1, if you had a multi-storey building with all windows showing up on level 1 this would be a project management nightmare. The reason why I am seeking a solution to this is because this is has been commonly requested by the contractors I work with.

Well, this is a solution. But it could be enhanced by automating the process of filling in the elevation of a certain level.

So the same contractor wants all windows head and sill elevations based on Level 1 and he also wants the windows being on the correct Level on the schedule?  Or do you have different contractors wanting different things?

Hi thanks again for your reply, It's the case that we work with various contractors that request different information, some want the sill and head heights tagged on the floor plans, referencing the first floor rather than the existing level. At the moment this data is manually inputted, as there is no way to show this.

Pardon me for saying so, but I think the solution here is to find a Window Contractor that can read plans, and has the mathematical aptitude to do simple addition and subtraction.  Frankly, I find it weird that a Window Contractor would need the upper story sill and head heights calculated from ground floor.  I'd love to hear that explanation.  I've be doing this for nearly 30 years, and we build stories from the Finish Floor Level. The Floor's Structural Engineering ultimately determines where that Finish Floor Level sits in relationship to the Level below it.

Glad you found a solution. I’m still curious to know why a Window Contractor would need to know upper stories window head and sill heights relative to ground floor level.  I’m guessing that it has something to do with governing construction codes.  If you care to share, I’d love to hear.

I asked our principal engineer just now and he said its mainly for himself, and that the contractors don't really need it, so it's a miscommunication on my part, sorry about that. Have a good week and take care.
