Windows not cutting walls

So i have this issue.. of windows not cutting all the walls... but it gets really weird.. Left en right window are the samy family but the one on the right has all non wood geometry removed. And suddenly it wont cut the outer wall. But in the picture below you can see the voids are the same.

So why wont it cut?

Did you join the walls or use cut with those voids?

@Anonymous : Did you test it in a Project or only in the family ?
If in Project: Did you overwrite a family  with a new family ?
If yes: delet this Family and reload it again.

For me both of your windows work properly in a new project.

Kind regards,

Bernhard

@Aryen_JacobsI wasn't able to replicate it thusfar aswell, seems to work properly. I'm pretty sure it is related to the use of those voids though... If you could, also share (part of) the project file where you are having the issue. Also the above question is unrelated probably, but more of an interest in how you are using the windows in your project...

Here is the model i have the issues with.. i am having all kinds of problems from the moment one of the contractors we work with is kinda forcing us to work in a way that just doesnt work well with Revit.

At first we would build any wall out of 2 walls.. one being structural limestone and the outer wall being insulation 40mm airgap and brick.. Now i have to model it with 3 different walls.. the limestone the insulation and the brick. with spacing for the airgap.. so i lose all tools revit gives to fix wall joints and cuts. i have to model everything by hand.

I dont like it but dont have a choice.

But well something in this 'new' way of working is breaking all kinds of stuff. the voids not cutting isnt even project bound. i had another testfile for a window generator from DeltiPi and it had the same issue

Hi thanks for looking into it.

Yes i have tried in a different project..same thing. yes it wil open the host. it wil open any wall joined with the first one.. but i have to model the outer layer seperate from the innerwall.. so the walls cant join and wont cut.

@Aryen_Jacobs : Do you have used "wall opening" for the inner wall cutout?
Use a void for this. This works.

BTW.: Why you use single walls and not one wall with 4 layers?

Hi,

I always use voids never the wall cutout. you cant control the opening if its a wall cutout. so yep thats good.. i did notice when i manually cut the windows with the walls it works..

the 3 walls is demanded by contractor in the IFC.. the projects are made with groups so i cant use parts.. or is there another option to split walls into parts just for the IFC export?

the 2 walls we used before is just easy when i have to turn off construction to load in the official structural model.

It's common enough I suppose, although structural+exterior should do imo... anyway I think I would include the air layer with the insulation wall type. Then join all those walls/wall layers, or cut individually for all windows but I guess maybe you just have the one or two there... edit: actually you don't need the air layer if you just cut them that works fine, or join those walls without them intersecting and ignoring the warning.

FYI using voids to cut works, however it might give you transparency trouble in elevation views in rvt2021 and upward in realistic view in case you're (going to be) using that.

Accepted solution

Thanks,

I  have come to the same conclusion that cutting works. And i would say 2 walls are sufficient also.. but sadly contractor wants everything split because thats BIM-ILS... it isnt but hey he is the one that pays the bills
