Window family not opening

I can open another project in this same session and it will open the other windows

I can't even get it open to see if the family is broken 

all other families open fine including doors and sliding doors in the same wall system

if I select delete element at the bottom of the error message it will let the family open - what did it delete?

when I delete the mullion - window projection lines - they are just symbolic lines - the windows don't cut the wall anymore

I have loaded the windows before and after attempt

any ideas

Well, the error pretty much described the problem: there's a problem with the opening cut. So open the Family and delete / recreate the opening cut.

You might want to Audit the family. Right click the family, select Save, save the family and then Open Family, select the family, put a checkmark on the Audit option and maybe it will solve the problem - most of the times it wont'.

its amazing what posting something does to the brain - I have been at it before and after posting and now with that little hint I went in and deleted the cutting element.

I had to open it separately as you suggested which meant that it did not delete the element

then added the new one and presto
