You can attach the Camera family and/or add some Screenshots showing the Camera select/the grayed out parameter...Something so that one understands what is going on

That is a reporting parameter you cannot change it. You need to host the family properly so that it reports properly

The family you are using is a Face based family which you hosted to Level 1?

  • Select it >> on the ribbon >>> pick new host and you should see the hosting options (Vertical Face/Face/Workplane)
  • If you select Workplane and pick a Level, the Elevation from Level will be 0 because both Host which is Level 1 and the Level where the family exists is also Level 1
  • As it is a pendant you need to host it to the face of the Ceiling/Floor above in Reflected ceiling view

Okay so this is a reflected ceiling plan that I'm putting this on..

So I need to pick a new host and make the plan level 2 so it will go to ceiling height? Or do I need to put a work plan in there with a offset od what I need it to go-to?

  • If you select the family and Pick Edit Workplane, you will need a Reference plane which has a Name (See GIF 1)

Hosting a face based 1.gif

  • If you select the family and Pick New Host >>> FACE ..
    • Make sure you are doing that in Reflected Ceiling View (not a floor plan)
    • Make sure the view range Top Offset covers either the suspended ceiling or the bottom of the slab (See GIF 2)

Hosting a face based 2.gif

Okay, so i need to create a reference plane with a name and then choose that plane for the camera to go to when I pick the new host correct?

Why don't you place it in a 3D view so that you can pick the host more easily?  After placed them, go back to RCPs and move/align them to the correct locations.

There are 2 options with a gif cast... choose which ever you find easiest one using workplane + reference and the other using by face

AND dont use 3D because that will mess up ur scheduling levels

Mess stuff up how?

You have a full control to set the desired Level and pick the correct face to host when placing the element.

And even if you forget to set the Level when placing, you can always select the placed elements and set Schedule Level to the correct one.

A question to an expert elite: is that how you place face based pendant elements on your projects?

You navigate through the 3D, rotate view to get the right angle, then switch back to ceiling views to align to right position then hope on to schedules to fix the scheduled level for each?

See below.

No.  If that is what you do then I suggest you read the below to improve your workflow.

When I need to place element in a 3D view:

- Select the ceiling > click Section Box > a 3D view cropped nicely

- Drag a face host element from Browser onto 3D view, set Level, choose Place on Face and pick a ceiling face

- Go to RCP and locate the element, copy/array if multiple instances need to be hosted on the same ceiling

- No fixing in schedule needed

When I need to place element in a RCP:

- set the view to Hidden or Shaded or Consistent Colors

- set the View Range's Primary Top to capture the ceiling host surface

- Drag a face host element from Browser onto the RCP and choose Place on Face

That didn't really answer the question.

Are you talking about the Axis Plugin for Autodesk Revit?

https://www.axis.com/tools/plugins/revit

Let's take a look at their RFA. Post it here.

BTW:  The AXIS P3224-LVE Mk II Network Camera has been discontinued.

After several trials and errors on more than one project we figured that the best way to go is to host on a reference plane and for sure in reflected ceiling plans.

We tried the 3D and it wasn't even close to convenient and not really efficient. I think we took the tip also from this forum. Next to our main business we have a specialized Lighting and Audio visual division and most of our and their projects are commercial centers retail stores and schools so the smallest of our projects has not less than 600 points and fixtures each floor the one I am working on this week has 2300 lighting points per floor. Jumping between 3D and RC to place and back to align and array is not really a workflow. I am surprised a level 12 suggests that as a solution.

Besides the tango dance between RC and 3D in 3D you maybe see the host clearly and think it will not miss it but in reality and I have experienced this on many projects user either forget to set the schedule level after placing the point or the family pics the wrong face of the host and we end up with wrong elevation and in most cases when we had a slightly complex Ceiling design we ended with randomly having some with the compound ceiling as host and others the floor above the compound ceiling as host.

I am glad using RCPs always work for you.  I, on the other hand, prefer to have more than one way to get things done.  One may work better than others under different circumstances.

Sounds like a cheap personal jab but okay.  Perhaps it is just the way you speak, and not the person you are.  Or is it?

Using your own example of incompetency to prove something's flaw is not exactly convincing.  But I can see why, I make working in 3D look easy and assume others can do the same but I guess 3D stuff is not for everyone.  So no, I admit I am not convincing either.  Hope that makes your day.

LMAO!

Sounds like a pissing match is going on here over the best way to manipulate a family that none of us has actually seen or tested because the OP never shared it.  It seems to me that all we really know for sure, is that the family is from the Axis Plugin.  Beyond that, we don’t know squat. Maybe the family instances can't be manipulated. Maybe the family instances weren't placed conventionally. Maybe the family instances were placed via the Axis Plugin. A lot of maybes.

Maybe it’s Miller Time.  🤔
